Emsworth Sailing Club is the ideal centre for the sailing family. Established in 1919, it is situated on the safe sailing waters of Chichester Harbour, and has seen successive generations of member families make use of its facilities. With a swimming pool, a dinghy park for 375 dinghies, and Club-owned cruiser moorings, it provides a venue and a base for a wide range of sailors.
Supervised by their parents, young children learn to swim and sail, moving out into competitive sailing in weekly races and more particularly in the Junior Regatta during the summer holiday. Adult member dinghy racing is arranged in conjunction with neighbouring Clubs, and is a central feature of the Club’s sailing programme for the whole family. Picnic outings and other social sailing events are also included.
Rallies and races are also organised for the cruiser fleet, of which the furthest afield is the annual rally to St Vaast near Cherbourg. Club members, of course, take their boats much further. Recent destinations on voyages from Emsworth include St. Petersburg, harbours in Turkey, and across the Atlantic to Antigua.
