Bolton Sailing Club was founded in 1952 on Belmont Reservoir and is recognised as one of the foremost Sailing Clubs in the North of England, where now it is served by a well-appointed Clubhouse and dinghy park.
From its original four members, it now has a membership of approximately 400 which includes ordinary, family, associate, senior, and junior members.
Belmont Reservoir is located just to the north of Bolton at Belmont Village and provides a large area of open water for interesting sailing.

There is a varied racing and training programme throughout the season which runs from the beginning of April to Christmas.From October a regular series of lectures is held on Friday evenings. Sailing is generally held on:
- Sundays - 10.00 am to 6.00 pm
- Wednesday Evenings
- Friday Evenings (Practice Night)
- Regular Open meetings are held throughout the season.
Several classes of dinghy are sailed giving a wide choice for differing tastes. Class racing is organized for Merlin Rocket, GP14, Optimists and Juniors. Handicap racing for other mono hull centreboard dinghies with a Portsmouth yardstick is also provided. It is not necessary to own a boat to become a member. |
